IShowSpeed in Benin

Project Overview
In January 2026, the Republic of Benin hosted IShowSpeed as part of his continental tour Speed Does Africa, a journey across 20 African countries in 28 days followed by millions of young viewers worldwide.
The visit to Benin was conceived as a carefully curated cultural and tourism experience, combining heritage, history, spirituality, and contemporary urban symbols. Beyond logistics, the project focused on narrative coordination, ensuring that each moment contributed to reshaping perception and amplifying Benin’s visibility among a global, youth-driven audience.
Introduction
The rise of content creators has transformed how destinations are discovered, perceived, and discussed. For younger generations, especially in the United States and within the African American community, platforms like YouTube and livestreaming have become primary windows into the world.
Inviting IShowSpeed to Benin represented an opportunity to engage directly with this audience through authenticity, emotion, and real-time experience. The objective was not to stage a promotional visit, but to create a genuine journey capable of revealing Benin in its complexity and humanity.
The Challenge
Changing Perceptions Among a New Generation
The main challenge was twofold. On one hand, Vodun and African spirituality are still widely misunderstood among Afro-American youth, often associated with fear, clichés, or misinformation. On the other, Benin remains relatively unknown to a young, global audience despite its cultural and historical significance.
The challenge was therefore to dismantle stereotypes while increasing awareness, without simplifying narratives or turning heritage into spectacle. The experience needed to be immersive, respectful, and naturally engaging.

The Mission
Design a Meaningful and Shareable Cultural Journey
The mission was to design and coordinate a tourism and cultural circuit that could tell a deeper story of Benin through lived experience. Each site was selected to reveal a different dimension of the country, history, memory, spirituality, creativity, and modern identity.
The journey had to feel organic, emotionally powerful, and visually compelling, allowing audiences to discover Benin through IShowSpeed’s genuine reactions and interactions.
Cultural and Tourism Circuit
The itinerary was carefully structured to reflect both symbolic depth and narrative progression. It included the Mur du Port de Cotonou, showcasing contemporary urban expression, the Esplanade de l’Amazone, embodying national pride and modern monumentality, and the Monument Bio Guera, honoring resistance and historical memory.
In Ouidah, the circuit explored places of remembrance and spirituality, including the Porte du Non-Retour, the Bateau du Départ, and the Arène de Ouidah, offering a powerful narrative around history, diaspora, and reconnection.
The journey continued through living spiritual heritage with visits to the Temple des Pythons and the Forêt sacrée de Kpassè, allowing audiences to encounter Vodun beyond stereotypes, as a system of belief rooted in respect, transmission, and harmony.

Communication Strategy 360
The visit was supported by a strong organic digital amplification driven by livestreams, short-form videos, and social media sharing. The authenticity of the experience played a central role in engagement, with audiences reacting in real time to discoveries, emotions, and interactions.
The content circulated widely across platforms, generating conversations around Benin, its culture, and its spirituality, without paid amplification. This organic reach reinforced credibility and trust among viewers.
Results and Impact
The Benin segment of the tour was widely recognized by international audiences and media as one of the most impactful moments of IShowSpeed’s African journey. Within a few days, the content generated nearly 8 million cumulative views, driven by strong organic engagement.
Beyond visibility, the visit triggered a noticeable increase in online searches related to Benin, its culture, and its heritage. It contributed to repositioning the country within the imagination of a young, global audience, particularly among Afro-American communities seeking connection, meaning, and identity.
Conclusion
A Cultural Moment with Lasting Impact
The coordination of IShowSpeed’s visit to Benin demonstrates how influence, culture, and tourism can intersect to create meaningful visibility. By prioritizing authenticity, narrative depth, and respect for heritage, the project succeeded in transforming a digital moment into a powerful storytelling experience.
It stands as a reference for engaging new generations, reshaping perception, and positioning Benin as a country of history, spirituality, and contemporary relevance.
