Project Overview

Vodun Days is the first international cultural and artistic gathering fully dedicated to Vodun arts, culture, and spirituality. Conceived as more than an event, it is a long-term branding initiative designed to reposition Vodun within global cultural conversations and to assert it as a living, contemporary, and creative heritage.

At its core, Vodun Days operates as a strategic cultural platform, blending tradition, artistic expression, spirituality, and modern storytelling to reshape perception at scale.

Introduction

For decades, Vodun has been burdened by deeply rooted misperceptions, often framed through fear-based narratives, stereotypes, and simplistic representations disconnected from its true historical, cultural, and spiritual foundations.

Vodun Days was created to address this imbalance by introducing a new narrative architecture. The project aimed to restore meaning, dignity, and depth to Vodun, while presenting it through a contemporary cultural lens capable of engaging both local communities and international audiences.

The ambition was not only to organize an event, but to build a brand that could speak to the world with clarity, confidence, and cultural authority.

The Challenge
A Heritage Misrepresented for Generations

Vodun is one of the most influential spiritual and cultural systems in the world, shaping societies across Africa, the Americas, and the Caribbean. Yet for decades, it has been reduced to caricature, mystery, or superstition, often stripped of its philosophical, artistic, and social dimensions.

The challenge was therefore reputational as much as cultural. The objective was to overcome long-standing prejudices while avoiding folklorization, dilution, or oversimplification. It required building a brand capable of honoring tradition while engaging contemporary global audiences.

The Mission
Building a Modern Cultural Brand with Depth and Legitimacy

The mission behind Vodun Days was to design a brand that could deconstruct harmful narratives and replace them with a richer, more accurate representation of Vodun as a system of knowledge, creativity, and collective memory.

This meant creating a brand language that was modern without being superficial, accessible without being reductive, and bold without betraying the spiritual and cultural essence of Vodun. The brand needed to function simultaneously as a cultural reference, an artistic platform, and an international rendezvous.

Brand Strategy
From Stigma to Cultural Excellence

The brand strategy was built around a clear repositioning of Vodun as a source of cultural power rather than fear. Vodun Days was framed as a high-level cultural event, comparable in ambition and rigor to major international art and culture festivals.

A strong narrative structure was developed, emphasizing transmission, creativity, spirituality, and dialogue. The brand tone was designed to inspire respect and curiosity, positioning Vodun not as a relic of the past but as a living force shaping contemporary identities and artistic expressions.

Visual Identity and Narrative

The visual identity was conceived as a bridge between heritage and modernity. It draws inspiration from Vodun symbols, rituals, and aesthetics, while translating them into a refined, contemporary design system.

Typography, colors, and imagery were carefully curated to convey depth, elegance, and strength. The narrative voice adopts an editorial and cultural tone, allowing Vodun Days to speak with authority while remaining inclusive and open to discovery.

Communication Strategy 360

The communication strategy was designed to ensure strong visibility, coherence, and impact across all touchpoints. It combined event communication, digital storytelling, social media content, media relations, and international amplification.

Content strategies focused on storytelling through images, videos, and narratives highlighting artists, rituals, collective moments, and behind-the-scenes perspectives. Social platforms played a central role in extending the experience beyond the physical event, allowing Vodun Days to reach global audiences and generate sustained engagement.

Implementation
From Cultural Vision to Global Experience

The brand was deployed through a large-scale international event format, immersive cultural programming, digital platforms, and media partnerships. Each activation reinforced the same core message, Vodun is culture, Vodun is art, Vodun is heritage in motion.

The experience was designed to be immersive, emotionally resonant, and visually powerful, ensuring consistency between physical presence and digital perception.

Results and Impact

Vodun Days rapidly established itself as a major cultural landmark.

During the most recent edition, the event welcomed more than 700,000 attendees over three days, demonstrating strong public engagement and national resonance. Across digital platforms, Vodun Days content generated more than 10 million views, significantly expanding its international reach and visibility.

Beyond numbers, the project contributed to a tangible shift in perception, positioning Vodun as a subject of pride, curiosity, and global cultural relevance.

A Cultural Brand That Changed the Narrative

Vodun Days illustrates how branding, when approached with cultural intelligence and strategic intent, can become a tool for transformation. By combining heritage, creativity, and modern communication, the project succeeded in reclaiming a narrative long distorted.

Today, Vodun Days stands as a reference in cultural branding, demonstrating that identity, when respected and elevated, can become a powerful force on the international stage.
